Whatever the approaches may be, education and human resource are the crucial issues concerning the sustainable development of Guangdong. This conclusion is drawn by both Governor Huang Huahua and his international business advisors in today's closed-door conference of GDICC 2005 plenary.

In recent years, great efforts has been made to improve Guangdong's education sector and attract more talents, but the development of its education and of human resources is not sufficient to meet the requirements of the social and economic development, said Xie Qianghua, Vice Governor of Guangdong, on the conference.

To quicken the development of education and human resources, Guangdong has formulated the Program for educational Modernization Construction. It is planned that by 2010, there will be a basic popularization of 12-year education from primary school all the way to senior high school and people above 25 years old will have a schooling of 10 years on the average. The province will work on the following aspects:

1. Promoting the development of education in an all-round way.

2. Forging ahead reforms in education, and establishing diversified educational mechanisms.

3. Pressing ahead the development of human resources in an all-around way.

Vocational Schools

Knowing Guangdong is in need of skilled workers, Kodak put forward an idea that the province shall adjust the ratio of higher education and vocational educations and ING thought it was a great idea that Guangdong vocational schools merge some other vocational institutes to enlarge the educational scale for professionals.

Other suggestions

ING also suggest the province to upgrade the level of the large enterprises and employees' organizations in the educational board of regional vocational education organizations. Kodak urged the province to give up the restrictions on the talent flows in between the cities. And Ericsson suggest the province to attract more ICT experts and overseas scholars on hi-tech area.

Other details about the discussion of the three topics include:

>>>Sustainable development of industries: technological innovation and upgrading of Guangdong's industries

>>>Sustainable Development of Ecology: Circular Economy and Construction of Green Guangdong
