Linda Lingle, Governor of the State of Hawaii delivers a speech in Sun Yat-sen University Tuesday (June 14) morning.
Cooperation of Sun Yat-sen University and University of Hawaii had greatly increased friendship and understanding between Guangdong and Hawaii. And through closer cooperation, Guangdong and Hawaii can seek more mutual benefit in the future.
Linda Lingle, governor of the state of Hawaii, made such statement in her speeches in Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou today at the signing of UH (University of Hawaii) System wide agreement with Sun Yat-sen University.
Governor Lingle articulated that the trend of globalization required the universities to better prepare their students to compete for employment in the global marketplace by offering more activities, especially international exchange and foreign language learning to their students. And universities in different place shall launch more exchange activities through cooperation. She mentioned that University of Hawaii once offered programs to train administrators from Guangdong, who then helped to further develop the economy of this province.
She said the agreement signed today involve all of the campuses of UH system and this will open up more opportunities of international exchange for students and faculty in both Guangdong and Hawaii. In the speech, she also mentioned that in the 21st century, government and universities should enhance their partnership in order to meet the challenges as globalization, resource preservation, alleviation of hunger, prevention or curing of disease, preventing and coping with natural disasters and protecting residents from threat of terrorism.
At the end of her speech, she stressed, in the spirit of the cooperation and friendship, Guangdong and Hawaii (governments and universities) can face the challenges and work closely together for mutual benefit.
