Director Tung Shubei receives the interview of Southcn.com

Reporter from Southcn.com has an interview on August 26th with Tung Shubei, director of the cross-strait relations research center, who has been to attend the 2003 Guangdong-Taiwan industrial forum held in Guangzhou.

Tung says the economic cooperation across the Taiwan Strait is an inevitable tendency of development.

During the last two decades, the total amount of turnover in import and export trade across the Taiwan Strait has reached about 268 billion USD, with the trade surplus of the Taiwan region up to 193.4 billion USD.

1500 out of nearly 2000 enterprises specialized in investing abroad and half of the total 600 listed companies in Taiwan have invested in the mainland

Mr. Tung says regions across the strait can have better economic cooperation by establishing a system of economic cooperation. For instance, he says, mainland and Taiwan may have a lot of cooperative opportunities in IT industry if the economic cooperative system is established, Taiwan with its rich experience in software design while mainland with its advantage in technological professionals and manufacturing.

Mr. Tung expresses his appreciation on the GD-TW industrial forum, thinking highly of its significance for the probing of the across-Strait economic cooperation by enhancing the mutual understanding.

With the signing of CEPA, Guangdong¡¯s advantage in its industrial cooperation with Taiwan is further strengthened, he says.
