The Sixth Hong Kong Guangdong Cooperation Conference will be held in Hong Kong tomorrow (August 5th).
Huang Huahua, governor of Guangdong Province, leading the Guangdong delegation, leaves for Hong Kong today to attend the conference.
This will be the first Hong Kong-Guangdong Cooperation Conference after the signing of CEPA (Closer Economic Partnership Cooperation), as well as the first time that the conference is hosted by heads of the both regions since the system of the conference was established in 1998.
During the trip in Hong Kong, Mr. Huang Huahua and Mr. Dong Jianhua is to host the whole conference together, which will last for one day. Huang will also visit the Hong Kong General Association of International Investment, and will meet the principal of the HK Chinese Chamber Institute of Business and attend the worthy forum of HK.
Under the background of CEPA, it seems natural and necessary to upgrade the conference from this year (2003) on. Premier Wen Jiabao also mentioned the upgrading of the conference in his speech in Hong Kong before.
All evidences show that both central and local governments wish to establish a better exchange system between Hong Kong and Guangdong so as to better the cooperation between Hong Kong and the mainland, especially the Guangdong Province.
It is said that from this time on, the Hong Kong Guangdong Cooperation Conference will be co-hosted by the governor of Guangdong Province and his Hong Kong Special Administrative Region counterpart.
