Latest Updated by 2006-12-11 16:47:56

In a sport long dominated by China, Chinese divers looked sharp in the first day of competition at the15th Asian Games by taking two gold medals from synchronized diving here on Sunday.

World Cup winners Wang Feng/He Chong enjoyed a class of their own by winning the men's 3-meter synchronized diving in 448.50 points.

Malaysia's Roslan Rossharisham/Yeoh Ken Nee came second in 393.36 and Kwon Kyung Min/Cho Kwan Hoon were third in 391.68.

The 27-year-old Wang said: "Though we had a lead of big margin, but we are not satisfied with our performance. We should work harder on coordinating steps and improve the quality of the dives."

The South Koreans were disappointed with their results. Kwon said: "We were aiming for the silver medal but we failed. We could have done better but we made a big mistake in the entry."

In the women's 10m synchronized platform competition, Jia Tong/Chen Ruolin met no challenge at all as there were only three pairs competing in the event.

Jia/Chen claimed the crown in 344.50 points while Misako Yamashita/Mai Nakagawa of Japan and Hong In Sun/Choe Kum Hui of DPR Korea collected silver and bronze in 317.70 and 302.76, respectively.

Jia, a 16-year-old from Sichuan province in China, said: "It's the first time we compete at the Asian Games. We are happy to win the title but in fact we were a little bit nervous at the beginning."

There are 10 diving events in the Asian Games, namely, the men's and women's 1m springboard, 3m springboard, 3m synchro, 10m platform and 10m synchro.

On Monday, Chinese Olympic champion Guo Jingjing will show up in the women's 3m springboard synchro with Li Ting.
