Water-Splashing Day has been widely celebrated in Southeast Asia and become one of the tourist attractions. The water splashing carnival has also been practiced annually in Daojiao town, Dongguan during the Dragon Boat Festival.
Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional festival falling on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar. It is a day to drive away evil forces. On that day, besides eating zongzi and participating in the dragon boat races, most Guangdong households bath the water in rivers, longxushui (literally means dragon whisker water) for avoiding evils.
During the past Food & Cultural Festivals, Daojiao households come together, young and old, splashed water at each other, which made the event a recreation for all family members.
