British woman Zoe Allsabrok has been in China for more than five years, and it is the third time that she has spent Christmas in China.
For the past several months, she has been working as an independent copy editor for a variety of publications in Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
Allsabrok insists her heart is in China, so her way of celebrating Christmas is somewhat special: She will fly to Beijing and invite her Chinese and Western friends to eat dumplings together.
"I hear it has already snowed in northern China, so I am looking forward to a white Christmas there. Along with several of my friends in Shenzhen, I will go to Beijing to hold a traditional Chinese-style celebration banquet with my friends," said Allsabrok.
Allsabrok is a fan of Chinese cuisine. "Dumplings are a staple on the traditional Chinese New Year's Eve dinner table, particularly among northerners, so I like to eat it on Christmas Eve."
What impresses her most about Chinese dumplings is the way they are made in a warm and harmonious family atmosphere. "When it is freezing outside, family members get together in their warm homes, mixing flour with water, kneading the dough and putting in the fillings. Finally, when the steaming dumplings are served on the plate, everybody looks so happy," said Allsabrok.
"I just love China. I have a special feel for China from my childhood," said Allsabrok. "Chinese people are very nice to me, I also have no difficulty communicating with them. I have many intimate Chinese friends with whom I can share secrets."
