The city's music lovers can look forward to a first-class festive concert as 22-year-old Chinese pianist Lang Lang will hold a Christmas concert with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (SSO) at the new TV center theater in Futian Friday.
Embodying a rare combination of skill and natural charisma, Lang Lang is a genuine musical legend in the making. After taking first prize at age 13 at the Second International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians in 1995, his breakthrough performance occurred when he replaced an indisposed AndréWatts at the Ravinia Festival's "Gala of the Century" - and left audiences and critics alike in awe.
"With his technical fireworks, interpretive passion and imagination, and unalloyed enthusiasm for every note, he's one of the most exciting talents to emerge in years," raved the Baltimore Sun.
Lang Lang has since progressed from one triumphant appearance to the next, including performances with all "big five" American orchestras, successful Carnegie Hall and BBC Proms debuts in 2001, and the widely acclaimed 2003 release of his Deutsche Grammophon recording with Daniel Barenboim and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
Lang Lang and his father Lang Guoren, an excellent erhu player, will also appear at a talk show focusing on his life towards success in Shenzhen Auditorium Thursday evening, which is expected to attract a lot of young piano learners and their parents.
The talk show also sells tickets priced at 100, 150 and 200 yuan.
Tickets for the Christmas concert are on offer with prices ranging from 180 to 1280 yuan.
