The Guangdong Puttet Troupe was established in April 1956. The Troupe has built up a repertory of over 300 original productions including the myths, modern puppet shows and the children pupppet shows for more than 40 years. Meanwhile, " Hibiscus Fairy" was produced as a coloured puppet artistic film by the Troupe and a Hong Kong film company, Changcheng Film Company, in 1957.

In 1959, " Monkey king steals the Banana Leaf Fan " participated in the National Puppet and Shadow Performance and got the Best Performance Award.

In 1960, the Troupe representing China perforned this puppet show in the Second Internatioanl Puppet Festival in Romania and won a silver medal.  Similarly, " Nezha Roars in the Sea" also won the Best Performance Award in the National Puppet and Shadow Performance in 1981. Besides, the performances such as " Monkey King Thrice Beats the White Bone Demon","The Legend of the Arrow" and " Pinocchio", etc, won many awards in the Province and Municipal professional artistic performances.

After China implemented its open-door policy and revolution, the Guangdong Puppet Troupe has continued to transform and develop its business for more than ten years. For example, the Troupe has produced many large-scale puppet shows, for instances, "Winning Alone", " Hundred Birds Returning to Nests", "The True and False Mondey King" and " The Legend of Five Goats", etc. Meanwhile, it performed " Ribbon Dance", "Monkey King Thrice Beats the White Bone Demon"(the contracted version), "Scramble for a Husband", "Princess chang Ping"(excerpt)and "Dance of Dragon and Phoenix", etc.

In 1992, "Ribbon Dance" was awarded the Best Performance Prize at the National Puppet Performance. Furthermore, "Monkey King Thrice Beats the White Bone Demon"(the contracted version) and "Here Comes the Wolves" won the Best Performance Award in the National Children Puppet "Golden Mondey Prize" contest. To cater for the market need, the Troupe also produced the frog series namely " Sitting in the Well and Looking at the Sky"' "Catch the Rats" and "Moving House", it also produced the modern puppet dancing shows which combine the Chinese traditioanl style with the Western modern style. For example, "Beautiful Rhythm" and "Beautiful Dance of Dream".

All these performances have got the favorable comments from the professionals.

The performances mentioned above come from Puppetry of Lingnan---A Puppet Art Showcase which has won popular acclaim.

 In the recent ten years, it was invited to perform in Hong Kong and Macau frequently. Other than Hong Kong and Macau, it also performed in different countries such as Romania, Hungary, Slovenia Croatia, the Czech Republic,Britand, Scotland, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore, Hawaii and Frankfurt, etc.

The performances recieved excellent responses from the audiences around the world.

The puppets made by the Troupe are delicate, vivid and with different style. The skill of manipulating puppets is wonderful and marvelous. Defferent puppets have their own style. The puppets made by the Troupe have been given to the Internatioanl Puppet Art Association and many countries for their collection, for instances, Cambodia,Burma,Pakistan, Indonesia,Japan, Russia,France,USA,Germany,the Czech Republic and Hungary, etc.
