Earlier in October 1999, Chinese president Jiang Zemin and French president Chirac jointly decided to hold the China--France Culture Year. Two years later, the two countries decided that the Culture Year would be held in each country in 2003 and 2004.
(2) 18th and 19th, June 2001
A joint Commission was put in place to steer the Culture Year programme and the authority first sat in Beijing in June. The two parties agreed there that Chinese Culture Year will run in France during October 2003 and July 2004, while French Culture Year begins in the autumn of 2004.
(3) 31st October, 2001
China's State Council held a conference on preparations for a Culture Festival and established the Chinese Organizational Committee of the Chinese Culture Festival. Beijing municipal government, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture all took charge of the preparations.
