The government has cancelled or reduced the levels of certain charges and fees collected from poultry businesses, which have been hard hit by the bird flu epidemic.
A circular jointly issued by the Ministry of Finance and the State Development and Reform Commission (SDRC) listed these charges and fees, which include highway freight surcharges, funds for railway construction, and fees for port and local water conservancy facility construction.
These measures apply from Feb. 1 to July 31, 2004, according to the circular. The preferential treatment applies to poultry farms, poultry processing businesses and poultry raising households.
The circular orders all localities not to levy fees or charges on poultry businesses for disinfection work and the slaughtering of poultry during the bird flu outbreak period.
