Two suspected cases of the H5N1 strain of bird flu have been confirmed in Shaodong County and Heshan District of Yiyang City, central China's Hunan Province, by the National Avian Influenza Reference Laboratory, the Ministry of Agriculture announced Tuesday (Feb 17th).
The local government had taken measures against the disease by culling poultry in the affected areas and imposing prompt quarantine restrictions, said the ministry.
No new suspected cases were reported to the ministry on Tuesday.
To date, the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu has been confirmed in 15 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions on the Chinese mainland.
