Chen Hong is out of the top four seeds (sohu photo)
No berth is reserved in the men's singles for Chinese this time, who claimed the gold and bronze medals of the event in Sydney, after losing their last hope Chen Hong in the quarter-finals Wednesday (August 18).
Chen, the No.2 seed in Olympic badminton tournament, falling under the jinx of nervousness, made too many unforced errors in the game against Shon Seung Mo from South Korea, and lost the second and third sets 4-15, 10-15 after winning the first one 15-10.
The only Chinese player in the third round of men's singles was said to be mentally weak for quite a long time, however, it seemed that he didn't unshackle the curse of mental weakness by repeating the quarter-final match in the 2003 World Championship against the same South Korean, seeded No.7 in the tournament.
Chen also won the first set 15-5 during that match, while lost the remaining two sets 14-17, 9-15.
