Russian 400m runner Anton Galkin was expelled from the 28th Olympic Games for failing an anti-doping test, the International Olympic Committee announced Friday.
Galkin, 25, was tested positive for stanozolol, a prohibited anabolic steroid after competing in the men's 400m event, in which he placed fourth in a semi-final on August 21.
Galkin is the 21st competitor to be sanctioned for drug related offences during the Athens Olympics.
In athletics these include two Olympic champions - Robert Fazekas of Hungary in the men's discus and Irina Korzhanenko of Russia in the women's shot put and a high jumper from Belarus.
