China snatched the women's 4x200 freestyle relay silver at Athens Olympic Wednesday (August 18).

China, third placer in last year's world championships, won the silver in 7:55.97.

The U.S. women retained the title they won in 2000 with a time of 7:53.42, breaking the old mark of 7:55.47 set by East Germany in Strasbourg exactly the same day 17 years ago, which is the oldest world record.

Germany landed the bronze in 7:57.35.

The four Chinese girls are Xu Yanwei, Pang Jiaying, Zhu Yingwen and Yang Yu.
