| On May 26th, the Guangzhou Federation of Industry and Commerce of the Chamber of The Nine Cities in the Pearl River Delta signed a cooperation framework agreement under a the private protocol authorizing the construction of 2 new runways at the Baiyun Airport. Guangzhou Mayor Zhang Guangning attended the signing ceremony and said that on the basis of the capacity of the existing runways, another 2 runways will be built to meet the future needs of the projected annual passenger flow that is projected to grow from 90 to 100 million passengers per year. By that time, Baiyun Airport will become the largest airport in Pan-Pearl River Delta.
During the meeting, while addressing more than 400 private entrepreneurs from 9 cities, Guangzhou Mayor Zhang Guangning presented the "olive branch" to symbolize that, for the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games, the Guangzhou government has, in the past 2 years, realized that the government must invest 350 billion Yuan in this advance in central growth infrastructures in order to welcome entrepreneurs from all over to participate in the growth of the city and to enjoy the prospects of profit that the tender represents."
In order to attract private investment by entrepreneurs in the city, Zhang Guangning presented the prospects for future development planning of Guangzhou via this program. He said that the Baiyun Airport, in the future, will have a total of five runways to meet the projected requirements an increased passenger flow from 90 to 100 million persons which would bring it to become the largest airport in the Pan-Pearl River Delta, "Now, Baiyun Airport has three runways, with the third runway leased to FedEx." Guangzhou will be built up to become one of the most important logistics centers in Asia with Federal Express projected to become one of the most important participants in the growth of Baiyun Airport in the future. The highest one-day ups and downs in terms of air traffic will likely be more than 60 flights, and all the goods shipped to China and other Asian destinations will be received and loaded for transport at Baiyun Airport."
