The consular tour today visited Maoming's two biggest economic contributors - petrochemical industry and agriculture. The city is one of the biggest petrochemical base in China and is also the important resource and raw material manufacturer in the province. Besides, it is also one of the largest fruit planting cities in China, with a fruit planting history of over 1000 years. Nowadays, they are selling fruits and fishes to many cities inside and outside Guangdong. However, the local agricultural sector is still rather small measured by economic output, and is eager to cooperate with outside world for technology upgrade and international marketing. The officials were impressed by their super ethylene production capacity and the high quality fruits, and some of them said they are willing to introduce Maoming to their countries' companies.
The tour then started their visit to second stop Zhangjiang with a cruise journey to Zhanjiang port, which is the only 100-million-ton-level port for southwest China area. According to Party Secretary of Zhanjiang, Mr. Chen Yaoguang, about 50 percent of Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan goods will be boarded for shipping to all over the world.
Mr. Nameer Alquraini, Kuwaiti Consul General in Guangzhou told Chen that Zhanjiang's development is better than his expectation, and he would like to recommend Zhanjiang as the site for Sino-Kuwait petrochemical project to the Q8 delegation, which is coming to Zhanjiang, Maoming, Jiangmen and Huizhou for a site choosing research.
Chen said, Zhanjiang has passed the regional environmental evaluation earlier. And when the city is chosen as the site-to-be, it will only need to go through the project environmental evaluation.
The sino-Kuwait project might be China's biggest international cooperation project, with an estimated investment of over 50 billion RMB. Nameer pointed out to Chen that, the project is also important for Kuwait, which may plan to input 1/3 of the oil Kuwait produces into the daily production of this project in the future.
