Security at Shenzhen Railway Station began to be tightened Wednesday, July 27th for the Universiade.

All inbound and outbound passengers, visitors and staff must undergo strict checks before entering the station, Chinese-language newspapers reported July 28th.

The 24-hour checks include physical, luggage and ID card examination and anyone who refused would be detained for questioning, police said.

The police department had deployed 150 special police and 200 probationary officers and 10 police dogs for the checks.

More than 2.84 million people and 15,000 vehicles had been checked at the railway station and police had seized 560 knives, 11 replica pistols, 300 cartridges and inflammable material.
