Guangzhou delegation visits quake-hit wenchuan county

A delegation of government officials led by Zhu Xiaodan, Secretary of the Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the CPC and Mayor Zhang Guangning visited Weizhou Town, Wenchuan County of Sichuan Province between August 14th and 15th. The delegation held talks with the local government on cooperation in the reconstruction of Weizhou Town.

Zhu emphasized that reconstruction of the town was no easy task that required strong leadership and communications between the government departments concerned. He said that Guangzhou municipality would establish a special leading group and its office to take full charge of aid work to the reconstruction in Weizhou Town to ensure that the relevant aid programs could be carried out smoothly.

Mayor Zhang Guangning pointed out that the Guangzhou government would implement the principles made by higher authorities concerning reconstruction, make overall plans for reconstruction as well as urban planning as soon as possible, focus on the construction and rehabilitation of public service facilities and infrastructures closely related to people's lives, help recover production and develop the economy as soon as possible, establish mechanisms concerning aid provided by all districts and governments for the quake-hit areas, organize scientific institutions and experts to take part in aid programs, raise funds for reconstruction and strengthen leadership to improve efficiency.  

The delegation returned to Guangzhou on August 16th.
