Guangzhou's friendship cities donate RMB 1.49 million for earthquake areas

The Guangzhou Municipal Government recently announced that the earthquake in Wenchuan, Sichuan Province captured the attention of Guangzhou's international friendship cities, foreign consulates, foreign friendship organizations as well as friendly foreigners and, in recent days, all have expressed their deep condolences to the governments and people in the earthquake areas in different ways. They have expressed their admiration of China's immediate measures to help the vicitms and the country's ability to fight. Too, the immense quantities of disaster aid and the unification of the Chinese people in the face of the disaster and all expressed their willingness to provide assistance in contributing to the earthquake and disaster relief.

According to statistics Guangzhou's international friendship cities like Fokoka in Japan, Bristol in Britain, Duesseldorf in Germany and others, including the British Consulate General in Guangzhou, the South Korean Consulate General in Guangzhou, Mr. Huang Jiancheng, Guangzhou's honorary citizen and President of Association Amicale des Cantonnais en France and so on, have all made donations to the earthquake areas totaling approximately RMB 1,490,030. The Los Angeles Guangzhou Friendship Association, Les Amiti茅s Franco-Chinoises de Lyons, Fokoka RKB Television Station, UCLG Asian and Pacific members and partners are all raising charity money.

Additionally, Guangzhou's friendship cities, such as Frankfurt of Germany, Fokoka of Japan, Sydney of Australia, and Ankara of Turkey and UCLG Secretary General also sent Guangzhou their condolences by fax and expressed hope and extended their sincere sympathies to the people hit by the disaster and their profound condolences to the victims in the earthquake areas through the Guangzhou Government.
