Korean Posco announced on April 15 that its Shunde (Foshan) zinc coated steel project has started operation with a projected annual output of 220,000 tons this year and 450,000 tons in 2015.

Guangdong Party Secretary Hu Chunhua said Gua-ngdong-Korea trade has grown more than 20 percent annually in recent years and that the expansion is mainly due to Korean enterprises. Guangdong is focusing on industrial transformation and upgrade and has opened its arms to more Korean-invested projects.

Foshan Party Secretary Li Yiwei said Foshan is already home to FAW Volkswagen and many household electrical appliance enterprises and needs more high quality steel manufacturers. Li added that Foshan hopes to expand its cooperation with more Korean enterprises.

Chung said that he is confident of the new project because Guangdong has a promising car market with a huge demand for vehicle steel. According to Nanfang Dai-ly, Posco will plan its Phase II investment on the b-asis of its Phase I operation and local market demand trends. (by Wing)
