Zhuhai has enjoyed a rapid 22.9 percent increase in public budget revenue, which totalled 4.836 billion yuan (US$787.6 million) in January and February due to high tax revenues. Public budget expenditures for the city reached 2.72 billion yuan (US$443 million), increasing by 11.5 percent, according to the Zhuhai Municipal Bureau of Finance.

Tax revenue in the first two months of the year amounted to 4.141 billion yuan (US$674.4 million), accounting for over 85 percent of total public budget revenue. There was substantial growth in revenue from value-added tax, business tax and enterprise income tax. Among other kinds of tax revenue, property tax took the lead, generating 276 million yuan (US$ 44.9 million) in the two-month period, a year-on-year increase of 51.4 percent.

Hengqin New Area greatly outstripped other districts of Zhuhai in financial revenue with a dramatic increase of 151.8 percent to a total of 801 million yuan (US$130.5 million) in January and February. This was also the first time that Hengqin's financial revenue exceeded that of Xiangzhou District, which stood at about 768 million yuan (US$125.1 million). This milestone should be attributed to a series of favorable policies and effective reforms. Different degrees of growth were also seen in other districts including Doumen, Jinwan, the High-tech zone and Gaolan Port zone.

The provision and maintenance of a free and open environment that supports all businesses in Zhuhai has contributed to an increase in currency reserves and loan balances in financial institutions.
