Since the 16th Party's Congress, the Guangdong Provincial Committee has emphasized the use of the latest achievements in theoretical innovations, so as to equip ourselves with the theories, guide our practice, and promote our work, thus forming an innovative system of theoretical education and practice with Cantonese characteristics.

Establishing principles of morality: Keeping ideals as the objective, the Guangdong Provincial Committee has carried out thematic educational activities at various levels with different groups of people. The principles of "idealism, responsibility, capability, and self-image" are the focus for the leaders of the party. "Loving our motherland, abiding by the law, having good faith, and being well-informed" are the principles for all citizens. "Being aspirant, cultivating one's morality, being learned, and dedicating oneself to the service of our motherland" are the goals of university students. And, "advocating morality and stressing education, and being exemplary role-models" are the targets for university teachers. The Guangdong Provincial Committee has made great efforts in promoting the moral and ethical qualities of the party members and the masses, agglomerating strong spiritual motives for the new round of its development.

Learning to gain more knowledge: The Guangdong Educational Forum, founded by Zhang Dejiang, committee member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee and the Party secretary of Guangdong province, has invited nationally renowned scholars and experts from the Central government and its various ministries, and instructors who give tutorials for the Political Bureau of the Central Committee, to deliver thematic reports on the important strategic thoughts proposed by the central government.

At present, as an important form of strengthening the theoretical study for the central government, the Guangdong Educational Forum has become a classroom for leaders to learn about what is happening both at home and abroad, a breeding ground for innovative and enlightening ideas, a platform for mutual learning and exchanging ideas, and a forefront for finding solutions to problems and making decisions.

Learning to be of use: In an effort to promote systematic investigation of leaders at the provincial level, the Guangdong Provincial Committee combines solving ideological problems with solving major practical issues, and trying to promote the theoretical and strategic competence of the leaders at various levels. In each of the past five years, the Guangdong Provincial Committee has located one such problem closely related to the reform and development of Guangdong province, organizing an investigation team of provincial leaders to carry out an official half-year investigation, followed by a discussion and exchange of opinions. It has organized a series of thematic studies, such as Implementing Ten Moral Projects, with the objective of strengthening the Party's governing capacity, building a harmonious Guangdong, locating and managing the social contradictions in the new era, adhering to the Party's principle of staying in close touch with the needs of the people, and finally making important decisions on the promotion of economic and social development of Guangdong province.

Facts

Since October 2005, Guangdong province has held 271 consultation activities on social sciences, 287 serial lectures on social sciences, and 130 promotional activities of books on social sciences (with a total of 97,000 volumes, which are worth RMB 970,000) , together with 152 articles written by 155 experts.

Moreover, all the cities and some universities and research institutions of social sciences in the province have held 16 picture exhibitions, 43 book promotions on social sciences, and 15 contests on social sciences with the media. In all these activities, more than 20,000 people have been involved, with an audience of 2.6 million people, and more than 11 million pamphlets on social sciences been distributed.
