Novartis AG
  Born in 1941, Mr. Jetzer earned master degrees in law and in economics at the University of Neuch?tel (Switzerland) and became a licensed attorney. After more than 10 years as General Secretary of the Swiss Federation of Commerce and Industry (today: "economiesuisse") in Zurich, he joined Sandoz in 1980.
  
  In 1981, Mr. Jetzer became Member of the Group Executive Board of Sandoz AG, as Group Chief Financial Officer and, from 1990 on, as Head of Management Resources and International Coordination. In 1995, he moved to the USA and became Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sandoz Corporation in New York (NY), and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sandoz Pharmaceuticals Corporation in East Hanover, NJ (USA). Mr. Jetzer returned to Basel on January 1, 1996 to serve as President of the Group Executive Board of Sandoz until the merger of Ciba and Sandoz to form Novartis AG took place on December 20, 1996.
  
  Since January 1, 1997, Mr. Jetzer has been serving as Member of the Board of Directors of Novartis AG (parent). Mr. Jetzer is also on the Board of Directors of Bank Clariden, Zurich, and the Supervisory Board of the Compagnie Financière Michelin, Granges-Paccot (FR), Switzerland, as well as the Board of the Swiss-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and of the Switzerland-Latin America Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Jetzer is a member of the Sponsoring Committee of the University of Zurich (Switzerland) and a member of the Supervisory Board of the Institute for Neurosciences of the University of Zurich. Besides, he is a member of the Supervisory Board of the Lucerne Festival Foundation, Lucerne (Switzerland).

Up to now, with a total investment of about USD330 million, Novartis has 6 enterprises and 1 research center in China covering the fields of pharmaceuticals, consumer health, eye-care, animal health and chemicals and intermediates for drugs, and employs about 2,500 people in mainland China. The total sales revenues of Novartis in China reached RMB2.12 billion in 2006
