ABB in China
ABB is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 110,000 people.
  
ABBs relationship with China dates back to one century ago, when it delivered the countrys first steam boiler in 1907. In 1974, ABBs China operation was established in Hong Kong. This was followed by its first permanent office in Beijing in 1979. In 1994, ABB decisively moved its China headquarters to Beijing. In 1995, ABBs holding company, ABB China Ltd., was formally established, and business started to grow at a faster pace
  
Today, ABB has a full range of business activities in China, including R&D, manufacturing, sales and engineering service, with 12,000 employees, 25 local companies and 38 company branches. In 2006, ABB reported $3.1 billion in orders in China.
  
ABBs product portfolio in China includes the full range of power and distribution transformers, switchgear technologies for high, medium and low voltage applications, electrical drives and motors and industrial robotics products. These products are widely used now in industrial, commercial and utility applications. ABB uses its more than 100 years of experience in electrical engineering to pioneer processes for utility and industries. Most ABB local companies in China are best in class, setting benchmark standards for their peer groups, while serving industries as diverse as metals, pulp and paper, chemicals and life sciences, automotive, utility automation and building systems.
  
In China, ABB has delivered many important projects, including building three High Voltage Direct Current power transmission links from the Three Gorges to Shanghai and Guangdong, providing water quality monitoring and analysis systems to Chinese environmental authorities to reduce river pollution. ABB is also providing technologies and products to Asias largest petrochemical complex SECCO in Shanghai, and delivering reliable power and automation equipment to the Great Hall of the People, the Beijing Olympic Games main stadium, Shanghai and Beijing Metro, Baosteel, and Shanghai GM, among many others.
  
In early 2006, ABB moved the headquarters of its global Robotics Business division and three global business units (Marine, Power Electronics and Metal) to Shanghai, reflecting market trends and the strategic importance of the companys operations in China.
  
ABB has a strong presence in Guangdong, with three sales and engineering branch companies in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Dongguan, and two manufacturing joint venture companies in Zhongshan and Jiangmen. ABB has more than 1600 employees in Guangdong with a total investment of about 100 million USD.
  
As an important hi-tech company in Zhongshan, ABB Zhongshan Transformer Co. Ltd (CNZTC) has been in existence since 2000. It produces mainly small power transformers to serve both China and overseas market.
  
Established in 1995, Xinhui Low Voltage Switchgear Company Ltd is a joint venture between ABB and Daguangming group in Xinhui. It is the first joint venture company producing Moulded Case Circuit Breakers (MCCB) in China. MCCBs are widely used for industrial control and building power distribution. Besides, the company also extends its product range to automatic transfer switches (ATS); dual power transfer (DPT/SE), a new generation of pilot devices and selector switches; ArTu panel builder; ACP/ACM; MDS enclosures, contactors and other precision technology devices. Its a leading company in the Low Voltage field in China.
