Peter K. Yam joined Emerson in 1986 and is currently President of Emerson Greater China and Chairman of Emerson Electric (China) Holdings Co., Ltd.
For more than a decade, Peter Yam has played a key role in Emerson's investments in China. He led the efforts in setting up Emerson's first manufacturing operation in Bao'an, China in 1992 and subsequently the Emerson Electric (China) Holdings ("EECH") in Shanghai in 1993. With over 19,000 employees in China today, Emerson has more than 30 legal entities in the country, including wholly-owned enterprises and joint ventures, mostly in the form of manufacturing operations. Peter Yam has been chairman of EECH since its inception in 1993.
Peter Yam holds a bachelors degree in electrical engineering from the University of Hong Kong and an Executive MBA from the University of Chicago. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation, a member of the Suzhou Industrial Park International Advisory Committee, a former Vice-President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, a director of the Executive Committee of Foreign Investment Companies in Beijing, a non-executive director of Sun Life Financial (Hong Kong) Limited, a member of the Political Consultative Committee of Yunfu City, Guangdong province and a visiting professor of the School of Business with the Nanjing University in China.
