Mobile Devices
Offers market-changing icons of personal technology - transforming the device formerly known as the cell phone into a universal remote control for life. A leader in multi-mode, multi-band communications products and technologies, Mobile Devices designs, manufactures, sells and services wireless subscriber and server equipment for cellular systems, portable energy storage products and systems, servers and software solutions and related software and accessory products.
Networks
Delivers proven capabilities in cellular, wireless broadband and wireline access technologies, with recognized leadership in integrating core networks through wireless IP, wireless softswitch and IP multimedia subsystems. The Networks group is advancing seamless mobility with innovative technology solutions, as well as a billion dollar services business with an expanded portfolio delivering support, integration, applications and management.
Motorola in China
Motorola came to China in 1987 when it opened a representative office in Beijing. In 1992, Motorola (China) Electronics Ltd. was established in Tianjin, a major manufacturing base where Motorola produces mobile phones, two-way radios, wireless communications equipment and automobile electronics for the Chinese and global markets. Mr. Simon Leung is the chairman of Motorola China and Mr. Ruey Bin Kao the president.
Today, Motorola has one holding company, four wholly owned companies, six joint ventures and 22 branch offices across China. At the end of 2004, the number of employees exceeded 9,000, and the total cumulative investment in China reached US$3.5 billion, making it one of the largest foreign investors in China.

Research and Development
Motorola has been a global leader in innovation in telecommunications. In China, Motorola has invested US$450 million in R&D, building 16 R&D centers and labs in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Nanjing and Chengdu. The number of R&D staff has surpassed 1800 by the beginning of 2005.
Motorola China R&D Institute has now become one of the world-class R&D base at Motorola. It has also evolved into the largest R&D facility global companies have ever set up in China.
The research focus of Motorola China R&D Institute covers advanced material research, software development, product design, 3G technologies, and man-machine interaction technologies. Quite a few popular models of mobile phones, including A780, A768, A760, E680 and more, were developed by our R&D centers in China.
Motorola (China) Technologies Ltd. was set up in 2004 with an aim to consolidate our R&D resources in Beijing.
Motorola University
Motorola University China was established in 1993 to train and develop world-class staff. It also cooperates with Chinese institutions of higher learning. Today, Motorola University China has 203 instructors to deliver 130 courses in Chinese. Many of Motorola's senior executives also serve as consultants and instructors.

Corporate Social Responsibility Activities in China
Project Hope:
Motorola has donated RMB34 million (US$4.2 million) in the past 11 years, and has established 72 primary schools in remote areas over all China. Today about 13,000 poor children are being educated in these schools.
Anti-SARS:
In May 2003, Motorola donated a total of RMB11.80 million in cash and equipment in an effort to support the fight of SARS in China.
Disaster Relief:
Motorola donated RMB30 million in 1998 to flooded areas along the Yangtze River valley and the Northeast China region. Motorola also built 11 schools for homeless children in flooded areas.
In early January of 2005, Motorola China employees donated RMB540,000 to tsunami victims in South and Southeast Asia.
Higher Education:
Motorola has provided RMB11 million to 12 universities as scholarships, including top universities like Peking University and Tsinghua University. Sports Sponsorship:
Motorola sponsored the 11th Asian Games, the 21st Universiade, the 7th and 8th National Games, CNBA, National Football League Matches, Badminton Matches, and Games for the Handicapped. Environmental Protection:
Motorola launched Green China Program in 1998, collecting and recycling used mobile phones, parts and batteries.
Employee Volunteerism:
Motorola employees have contributed more than 6,000 man hours in volunteer activities, including training and teaching students and teachers for Project Hope, teaching business-related courses in colleges, high schools and primary schools in association with Junior Achievement.
