Zero accident on food safety at 109th Canton Fair

On May 5, the 109th China Import and Export Fair (also known as the Canton Fair) was successfully concluded. According to the Food and Drug Administration of Guangzhou Municipality, food safety was ensured for over 690,000 participants who dined at the Pazhou Exhibition Center or at the opening reception and zero cases of accidents and complaints were reported.

The Food and Drug Administration applied early planning, implemented early involvement and took early measures to ensure food safety for the 109th Canton Fair. It carried out strict examination and issued temporary licenses to 74 food suppliers at the Exhibition Center. All of the legal representatives or responsible persons of the food suppliers and the staff to carry out food safety supervision had to sign a guarantee while all of the 2000 staff who provided dining services had to receive training and pass an examination. All together 1284 laws and regulations enforcement officers were sent to inspect hotels and food suppliers and carry out prompt rectifications. 1149 food supplying units, 4712 employees and 312 delivery vehicles were involved. Such staff also carried out 1121 core temperature tests of sample food and implemented 182 sample inspections on cooked food in association with the Municipal Bureau of Health.
