With the 29th Olympic Games to be held in Beijing approaching, major cities including Beijing and Shanghai have begun to exercise security checks of metro passengers for the sake of safety. Since July 25th, metro passengers in Guangzhou would have to receive security checks by a professional 100-member team, established jointly by the Guangzhou Metro Corporation and the Division of Guangzhou Public Security Bureau in charge of subway transportation.

In terms of the relevant laws and regulations issued by the municipal government, passengers shall have their personal belongs checked before admission into a metro station.

Whatever is considered flammable, explosive, poisonous, radioactive and erodable shall be prohibited. Admission shall not be allowed for passengers who refuse to have their belongings checked or give up whatever is regarded as a threat to public security. Passengers, if found to carry arms or weapons prohibited by law like daggers, shall be put in the charge of public security departments. If found guilty, they would be punished by law.

In addition, a drill is soon to be exercised to improve abilities of rapid response.
