Environmental measures implemented for the Asian Games and Asian Para Games in Guangzhou proved to be effective, with all indicators reaching or exceeding present targets, announced the expert panel in charge of these environmental measures on December 20.

According to the head of the expert panel, Guangzhou's air quality this year has been the best since 2004, when the city won the bid to host the Asia Games, and this year through November, the air quality had a "good" rate of 97.7%, up 13 percentage points from 2004, exceeding the 96% target set for the Asian Games.

After the opening of the Asian Games on November 12, Guangzhou's air quality has been consistently rated as good and reached or exceeded the national Class II standards every day. And there have been no hazy days, and the average visibility has risen from 12 kilometers to 13.6 kilometers. All major venues for water-related sports at the Asian Games conformed to or surpassed the Class III standards, and all venues were within ambient radiation limits, in line with the environment standards for the games.
