Cao Yuan's victory in men's platform completes China's clean sweep

With nine perfect marks, a game-high 101.75 points, China's Cao Yuan won the men's 10 meters platform at the Asian Games on Friday (Nov 26).

After the 5-day competitions, China swept all 10 gold medals at stake and 6 silvers, while Malaysia became the second biggest winner with 4 silvers and 5 bronzes. DPR Korea had 2 bronzes, Japan, South Korea and Macao of China collected 1 bronze apiece.

In the men's 10m platform final, the 15-year-old Cao grabbed 2 perfect marks in his first dive before he changed place with Olympic synchro champion Huo Liang after the second dive. Cao scored 101.75 for his 307C (reverse 3 1/2 somersault), a game-high in the fifth round which locked the gold for him

Cao claimed the title in 557.15 points, 4.65 ahead of Huo Liang. Malaysia's Byran Nickson Lomas came third.

Cao, World Cup synchro champion, said: "It is my first Asian Games. I'm happy with gold but not satisfied with my dives. I made some mistakes and had some good dives. I was not nervous during the competitions, because I knew if I dove to my best, I would leave all the pressure to my rivals."

China's World Cup champion He Zi snatched the gold in the women's 3m springboard in 382.00, Shi Tingmao was second in 359.00. Choi Sut Ian won Macao's first diving medal in the Asian Games history.

He said: "I had some mistakes in my dives. It's my first Asian Games champion. I was nervous in front of the full-house crowd."
