Guangdong plans reforms to overcome crisis
Latest Updated at 2008-November-20 09:53:27

China's Guangdong province is seeking to streamline its government, ease controls on businesses and increase high value-added industries to overcome slowing demand triggered by the global financial crisis, the South China Morning Post said, citing the Guangdong Communist Party chief Wang Yang.

The province plans to focus on industrial reform in the major cities of Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Shantou and Zhanjiang, the Hong Kong-based Post said. Shenzhen will focus on building its financial and technology industries and Guangzhou on improving government transparency, the newspaper said.

Zhuhai will focus on technology and environmentally friendly industries, Shantou on developing its logistics sector and carrying out land reforms, and Zhanjiang will look to build its steel industry, the report said.
