The electric auto industry will be one of Guangdong's rising industries as Guangdong plans to form a production capacity of more than 200,000 electric vehicles in the next four years and build a world-class electric auto base in ten years, according to a plan issued by the provincial government.

According to the plan, by 2015, initial network facilities and local policies and standards of using electric vehicles will be established. Some core technology will be at international standards. The sales of provincial electric vehicles will account for 3 to 5 percent of new cars sales with an output occupying 5 percent of the total volume. In the next ten years, Guangdong plans to have two or three Chinese brand name inter-national electric car enterprises.

The application and promotion, public transport, government and institutions are key places to start the trial operation. More than 30,000 electric cars will be in trial use in three to five years. Large- scale application will be promoted in Guangzhou and Shenzhen during the 16th Asian Games, 25th International Electric Auto Show and 26th University Games.

GOVERNMENT’S SUPPORT

Governments are encouraged to p-urchase electric vehicles and should account for 10 percent of the total purchasing in 2012.

Electric vehicles charging network will be included in the infrastructure plan of big cities in Pearl River Delta from 2010. Service stations, communities and pub-lic parking places are supposed to be ex-panded.

As for priority strategies, a proportion of parking lots for electric cars will be set up in public parking areas and road parking places and a special electric car parking space in business zones. The re-gistration and annual inspection of elec-tric cars are given a priority and electric cars can be issued environmental-prot-ection label directly. The electric cost will be reduced.
