The 16th Working Meeting of the Hong Kong/Guangdong Co-operation Joint Conference was held in Guangzhou on February 28 and was co-chaired by the Vice-Governor of Guangdong Zhao Yufang and Hong Kong Chief Secretary for Administration Henry Tang.

The meeting reviewed the implementation progress of the Framework Agreement on Hong Kong/Guangdong Co-operation in 2010 and included discussions on tasks that will be jointly carried out by the two regions in 2011.

In 2010, Guangdong launched over 40 pilot schemes in the service sector. Hong Kong has invested in 2,237 service projects with a total contracted capital of 9 billion USD, accounting for 78 percent of the province’s FDI in service sector. Eight Hong Kong banks will set up a total of 10 sub-branches in Guangdong and about 121 Guangdong enterprises have already applied for Initial Public Offerings in Hong Kong.

Both sides have agreed to introduce a number of pilot measures under the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA), including developing the Chinese yuan businesses.

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High Speed Rail lines would be priority projects for this year in order to integrate infrastructure construction and the construction of Shenzhen’s Qianhai district and Hong Kong’s Lok Ma Chau Loop,
