Guangzhou, also known as the southern gate of China, has more than 2000 years history. With the increasing influence worldwide, Chen Jianhua, Guangzhou mayor, told media the four most significant features of Guangzhou.

Four identifications of Guangzhou

Mayor Chen said, firstly, Guangzhou has been a foreign trade center in China from over 2,000 years since Qin Dynasty,

Secondly, it is the origin of Lingnan Culture (culture of Guangdong). Lingnan culture is a combination of Guangdong’s local culture, culture of China’s central plain, and culture spread into China through ocean from foreign countries.

Thirdly, it was where the ancient maritime silk road started.

Fourthly, it is the origin of China’s modern revolution where emerged lots of historical figures like Kang Youwei, Liang Qichao and Sun Yat-sen. They had once contributed a lot in leading China’s revolution in the period of 1840-1919.
