The 107th Canton Fair, an important barometer of China's foreign trade, concluded its Phase I yesterday (April 19). The Phase I, for machinery and electronic product display, received 100,073 foreign buyers, with an 8 percent increase over last year, indicating a rebound of international market demand.

In the five-day show, Guangdong delegations bags deals on home appliances, electronics, hardware, tools, transporting vehicles, building materials, lighting equipment and chemical products, with a contracted value up 20 percent against the previous fair. Over half of participating enterprises said they signed more orders than last year.

The increase of international trade orders signal recovery of foreign trade, said Li Rongcan, director of the MOFCOM Policy Research Department, but he warned that the recovery is not stable since a series of factors still exert great influence on waking up foreign trade, such as raw materials price hike, trade protectionism and the pressure from RMB appreciation.

The second phase will be held from April 23 to 27, featuring commodity, gifts and house decoration goods. 6884 enterprises are expected to attend the fair.
