Hong Kong and mainland joint legal office founded

A joint venture between Hong Kong and the mainland law office was officially approved by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Justice yesterday (April 5). This is the first joint law office under the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) between Hong Kong and Guangdong.

According to an official from the Department of Justice, over 50% of foreign investments in Guangdong are from Hong Kong, providing a great potential for a legal service market to Hong Kong lawyers. The joint law office can help enhance exchanges between the two areas and improve lawyer's quality on the mainland. Hong Kong lawyers of the joint venture are subject to administration of both mainland and Hong Kong supervision.
