NPC & CPPCC Sessions 2006
GD Provincial People's Congress & CPPCC annual Sessions

Last night (March 5) in Beijing, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Committee Zhang Dejiang and Guangdong Governor Huang Huahua met the Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR Donald Tsang Yam-kuen to discuss and exchange views on how to further improve the cooperative level between Guangdong and Hong Kong and improve the Pan-Pearl River Delta cooperation.
Zhang said Guangdong's economic development is doing well. The total economic strength accounted 10.8 percent of the mainland in 2000 and the percentage has increased to last year's 11.9 percent. But in terms of the GDP per capita, Guangdong still has a long way to catch up with Hong Kong and thus Guangdong could learn from Hong Kong by strengthening the cooperation with Hong Kong.
Zhang added that the push forward for Pan-Pearl River Delta cooperation will expand Hong Kong's development horizon and all the provinces and regions will benefit from the regional cooperation.
Donald Tsang agreed with Zhang and said with economic recovery over the recent years, Hong Kong has stepped out of the Asian financial crisis's shadow. Hong Kong will look for more development opportunities in regional cooperation.
He also added that he will talk to other provinces and regions within the Pan-Pearl River Delta and relevant national departments during the NPC and CPPCC sessions. The third Pan-Pearl River Delta Regional Cooperation and Development Forum is scheduled in Yunnan Province in June.
