The population of Macao showed continuous decrease upon the reducing number of non-resident workers in the third quarter of 2009, as the population estimate dropped by 3,000 quarter-to-quarter to 541,200, according to the figures released on Monday (Nov 9)聽by the Statistics and Census Service ( DSEC) of the Special Administrative Region (SAR).
Total number of non-resident workers stood at 77,239 at the end of the third quarter, dropping by 6,377 compared with the previous quarter, the DSEC figures indicated.

Meanwhile, there were 1,111 immigrants from the Chinese mainland moving to Macao with One-way Exit Permit during the third quarter, an increase of 80.7 percent over the previous quarter, while 334 illegal immigrants were repatriated, down 26.4 percent quarter-to-quarter, according to the DSEC.
One-way Exit Permit is a document issued by the mainland authorities allowing residents of the mainland to enter Macao SAR.
