Latest Updated by 2004-12-10 09:21:16

Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Edmund Ho Hau Wah on Thursday (Dec. 9) extended his appreciation on the Central Government's approval of his proposals for senior officials for the second-term SAR government.   ;

China's State Council agreed Ho's suggestion that the principal officials and the prosecutor general remain unchanged for a second term of the Macao SAR government, which is "favorable for the SAR government to maintain the continuity of its policies and administration," said Ho.

According to the nomination, Florinda da Rosa Silva Chan will continue to work as secretary for administration and justice, Francis Tam Pak Yuen as secretary for economy and finance, Cheong Kuoc Va as secretary for security, Fernando Chui Sai On as secretary for social affairs and culture, Ao Man Long as secretary for transport and public works, Cheong U as commissioner against corruption, Fatima Choi Mei Lei as commissioner of audit, Jose Proenca Branco as commissioner general of the Unitary Police Service, Choi Lai Hang as director-general of the Macao Customs, and Ho Chio Meng as prosecutor general of the Public Prosecutions Office.

Edmund Ho Hau Wah was appointed to a second term by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in September, after he gained a 99 percent support rate in the SAR's first chief executive election in August. His second term as Macao's chief executive will begin on Dec. 20, 2004.

Ho said he was confident that his team would maintain close cooperation and enhance their administration to achieve the goal of providing better quality of life for the people of Macao.

Ho also expressed a confidence that the principal officials would be honest and just, and would contribute their efforts for their mission to implement the principles of "one country, two systems" and "Macao people governing Macao," and a high degree of autonomy.
