Hong Kong's chief executive Tung Chee Hwa Tuesday (Aug. 31) evening expressed the wish that Hong Kong's disabled athletes would achieve brilliant results at the upcoming Paralympic Games on Sept. 18.
Tung made the remarks at the flag presentation ceremony for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region HKSAR) Delegation to the Athens Paralympic Games.
Tung, who welcomed home the Hong Kong athletes from Athens a few hours ago, bid farewell to Hong Kong's team of athletes who will leave for Athens to take part in the Paralympic Games.
"It is most encouraging to see that our athletes have been striving tirelessly to fulfill the Olympic mission of going faster, higher and stronger," he said.
"What impresses me most is your courage to reach new heights, your perseverance in overcoming the great difficulties you face inbeing disabled, and your strong will in pursuing your dreams. I can say that what you have displayed is the highest order of spiritual achievement, something that each one of us can learn from you," Tung told the disabled athletes.
The chief executive also expressed the confidence that the disabled athletes would continue to perform their best at the Paralympic Games and achieve brilliant results.
