Global Sources Electronics Group Ltd - a facilitator of trade with the mainland - is set to kick off its 2015 spring electronics show in Hong Kong on Saturday, with more than 5,500 exhibition booths showing off the latest in consumer electronics, drones and robotics to attract buyers from around the world.

A host of international enterprises that have registered to attend as buyers include Foxconn Technology Group, SoftBank, Samsung Electronics, Li & Fung Ltd, LG Electronics, Tesco, Haier Group and Huawei,

Tommy Wong, president of Global Sources, said on Thursday that 60 percent of the exhibitors will be from Shenzhen, 30 percent from other cities in Guangdong province, and the rest from Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Global Sources held its first show in Shanghai in 2003, but it moved the annual event to Hong Kong in 2006 because it considers the city capable of providing better services to buyers and exhibitors.

"Hong Kong is a traditional procurement and distribution center. It is also an international logistics center, which makes it easier for our buyers and suppliers to ship their products to or from Hong Kong," Wong said.

He added that Hong Kong also has a well-established financial services industry, which, together with a rich talent pool, can provide a full range of services that buyers and suppliers need.
