Built in 1929, the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall in Zhongshan Park of Sanhe Town, Meizhou City (Northern Guangdong) was the first of its kinds in China, reveals a monument unearthed recently in Huicheng Village of the city.
The memorial hall was built by people of Sanhe Town to memorize Dr. Sun Yat-Sen’s revolution activities there.
Brief introduction: Dr. Sun Yat-Sen
In Chinese history Dr. Sun Yat-Sen is known as "Forerunner of the Revolution" or "Father of Republic." In the West, he is considered one of the most important figures of Chinese history in the twentieth century.
He struggled to bring a democratic revolution to China for over twenty years. Unfortunately, when he finally triumphed with the establishment of the Chinese Republic in 1912 with him as president, he had it cruelly snatched from him by the dictatorial and ambitious Yuan Shih-kai.
Dr. Sun died in 1924. His ideas, however, fueled the revolutionary fervor of the early twentieth century and became the basis of the KMD government established by Chiang Kai-shek in 1928.
