Romance will be in the air for Lantern Festival which falls on Feb. 28th this year. Lantern festival (Yuanxiao in Chinese) is a day for family members to gather together; but in recent years it has taken on a similar significance to Valentine's Day in Europe, it is a day for lovers. Parks have prepared lanterns and flowers, creating a very romantic atmosphere in a very Chinese way.

Baiyun Mountain set-up a 20-meter long dragon at the peak of the park for this occasion, as dragons symbolize luck and wealth. Dragon dance performances will take place at night on February 27th and 28th from 20:30 to 21:30. What's more, a thousand red lanterns will be ready for visitors at the Pearl Lake over the weekend from 19:00 to midnight.

Other parks, including Yuntai, Wenhua and Sunflower, shall also be decorated with flowers and lanterns, but with a special theme this year: the 16th Asian Games and the year of the Tiger.
