Taiwan pop singer A Mei's tax evasion scandal has been clarified after through checks by tax authorities.
Recent reports stated that A Mei was hit with a bill from the Taiwan authorities, asking the singer to pay the $970,000 US for back taxes from her income in 2000 through album sales and concert performances.
It has triggered heated speculations among Taiwan entertainers and the public alike.
A tax official surnamed Li said A Mei hadn't evaded taxes but misunderstood whether she should pay taxes on the base of "salary" or "personal earnings."
Every year Taiwan's tax authorities specifically inspect people in the entertainment business and release a random list of evaders.
