Nansha Port is scheduled to increase their cargo routes to more than 40 within this year. The port has attracted the top 20 container shipping companies of the world to transport their cargo.

In 2011, Maersk had established its third gateway in China after Hong Kong and Shenzhen and opened over 10 routes of trade cargo to the world's different regions. In 2013, the company plans to open some more.

Guangzhou Port Group said the Nanshan Port is advantageous in lower cost and shorter time. For example, it takes only a few hours to ship or carry the products from the Guangdong's Zhongshan and Shunde city to the port. The transport cost of each container from the west bank (Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Jiangmen) can be cheaper USD 100 than from the east bank (Shenzhen, Dongguan, Huizhou).
