Guangzhou 2011-2015 Public Transportation Plan. Green lines for finishing routes by 2010, blue by 2012 and yellow by 2015

The Guangzhou Development and Reform Commission on Mar. 2nd revealed the 2011-2020 Public Transportation plan which shows, amongst others, that within the next 5 years, 15 new metro lines will be put into operation covering most of downtown Guangzhou. All new routes and stations have been decided upon and by 2020, the city shall boast a 677 kilometer metro network.

Currently, Guangzhou has 5 metro lines totaling 150 kilometers. 3 new lines are under construction including the Guangzhou-Foshan metro and 3 existing lines are being extended. When the Guangzhou Asian Games open in November, the metro network should run 218 kilometers, reaching all main sporting events and connecting Guangzhou and Foshan.
