Improved lighting planned in SZ
Latest Updated by 2006-08-29 17:46:32

The specific plan for the Street Lighting Improvement Program in Shenzhen has been completed, an official in charge of the project revealed Sunday morning, adding that construction is due to begin in October following bidding.

The program includes three parts: to improve the city's lighting system, especially the lighting on Shennan Road; to replace the old cement lamp posts; and to improve the lighting in some communities.

Lighting will be improved in eight areas of Shennan Road: namely Nantou, the Hi-tech Park, Zhuzilin, Caiwuwei area, Nanhai Road, Huaqiangbei and Renmin Road South. The program will be completed in February next year.

Also, the lighting will be improved in Shenzhen Bay, Shangbu Road and Wenjin Road starting next year. In 2008, the lighting in Overseas Chinese Town will be improved.

About 2,417 cement lamp posts will be replaced with steel posts. The work will begin in mid-October and will be finished at the end of the year.

The lighting in 69 streets will also be improved by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, work on Shennan Thoroughfare will start Sept. 20. The project, scheduled to be completed by April next year, will include repair to the road and pavement, the setting up of special lanes for public transportation and the addition of pedestrian facilities.
