A Guangzhou lion dance troupe performed in Mumbai and Pune, the capital city and the second largest city of the state of Maharashtra in India, from February 28th to March 3rd. The troupe was organized by the Foreign Affairs Office of CPC Guangzhou Committee and invited to perform at the Chinese New Year Reception held by the Chinese Consulate in Mumbai.

Tang Guocai, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Mumbai, said cultural exchanges between China and India have entered a new chapter since the first meeting concerning the China-India people to people exchange mechanism was held in December last year.

“The lion dance has long been a popular tradition in South China, and for us it is very meaningful to share this performance with our Indian counterparts. The enthusiastic response from Indian audiences shows a great potential in strengthening cultural exchanges between two countries,” he said.

The reception attracted about 500 representatives from the government of Maharashtra, enterprises, academia, artists and foreign consulates in Mumbai.

The troupe also toured around the Chinese banks and enterprises in Mumbai and Pune and met with a famous Indian film producer, Akbar Khan, during their trip.
