Due to the high temperature, kapok flowers, the official flower of Guangzhou, have already been in full bloom around the city, earlier than usual. According to data, entering 2019, Guangdong saw its average temperature going up to 15.8℃, the highest temperature recorded since 1951.
People in Guangzhou have long been growing Kapok trees, using its cotton to make clothes and its flowers to make herbal tea. They also dry kapok flowers to preserve them, believing that they are good for health when living in hot and humid places.
